Day 240 - Americano (French)
"In Paris, the relationship between Martin (Demy) and Claire (Mastroianni) is at an impasse. His mother's death suddenly calls Martin back to Los Angeles to deal with inheritance formalities, the town where he spent his childhood. In Los Angeles he is helped by a family friend, Linda who takes him to his mother's home and the neighbourhood he grew up in. This return to childhood haunts provokes several buried memories that appear to disturb Martin. After speaking with a neighbour, Martin goes to Tijuana in Mexico, looking for Lola (Hayek), a close friend of his mother's. He tracks her down to the Americano, a club where Lola works as a dancer. However, to find resolution, Martin must face up to his past"
Everything about this film is terrible, from the acting to the script. Mathieu Demy was so horrible In this film, I doubt I will watch anything else by him. Salma was horrible as well and shouldn't have been casted in this film it only brought down the films value. I suggest you skip this film as I will next time.

Day 239 - Fire of Conscience (Hong Kong)
Detective Manfred is a cop that is out for justice and he wont let anyone get in his way. Meanwhile Inspector Kee is only looking out for himself while securing money by doing things that go against the badge he has. How will these two end up
A very dull thriller that could have been better with a different cast and improved plot. Leon Tai was good at times but he fails to the portray the character at all and he leaves us bored out of our minds because he can't act. Leon Tai ends up looking like Jay Chou in every one of Jay's movies. The plot was okay but with improvement it could have been great. The final fight between the two is so boring do to the prolonged tension of the collision. I wouldn't suggest you watch this film unless you are having a film night.

Day 238 - Russian Ark (Russian)
"On a winter's day, a small party of men and women arrive by horse-drawn carriage to a manor, side entrance of the Winter Palace. The narrator (whose point of view is always in first-person) meets another spectral but visible outsider, "the European", and follows him through numerous rooms of the palace. Each room manifests a different period of Russian history, but the periods are not in chronological order.."
If you are not interested in Russian history then this could be a very dry film for you. Cinematically it is quite beautiful with its sets and costumes. I enjoyed the long continuous shot, not a lot of people have the courage to do that. The film was filmed in the winter palace in Saint Petersburg. I enjoyed the authenticity of the film but everything else to me was slightly dull. I suggest this film to those that like Russian history.

Day 237 - The Substitute (American)
"Shale (Berenger) is a mercenary and a Vietnam veteran who returns home to Miami after a botched covert operation in Cuba in which three men from his platoon were killed. He surprises his girlfriend, Jane Hetzko (Diane Venora) at her apartment and is warmly welcomed. On the outside, Jane is a schoolteacher at inner-city Columbus High School, an institution with a gang problem, complete with metal detectors and gates protecting its boundaries. She also clashes with Juan Lacas (Anthony), leader of the KOD ("Kings of Destruction") gang and has her leg broken in a beating while attacked on a morning jog. Jane and Shale believe this to be related to the KOD, which prompts the latter to go undercover as an Ivy League-educated, government-affiliated substitute teacher for his girlfriend's class."
Another movie that was so bad I wished I didn't watch the whole thing. Berenger's acting is a bit stale as are the other actors in the film. The script could have been a thousand times better, there were holes and many clichés. This film had no heart and eventually spiraled out of control until it became nothing. I would suggest you skip this film!

Day 236 - Karate Robo Zaborgar (Japanese)
"An evil criminal organisation called Sigma kidnap prominment business leaders to harvest their DNA and only Karate-Robo Zaborgar can save them"
A very corny but still interesting film. I enjoyed most of the characters since each had their own story and ideals. Its not a film you want to watch if you are looking for a serious film as this is a comedy that borderline on very corny. This film still has a few non corny moments but you forget about them due to the ridiculous nature of the film. I suggest this film to those that like Japanese films that are so corny that it is kind of funny.

day 235 - Smurfs II (American)
"
"Smurfette is having nightmares about betraying her fellow Smurfs and turning them over to Gargamel to be captured. Meanwhile, the Smurfs are preparing a surprise party for Smurfette's birthday, but as Smurfette tries to find out what her fellow Smurfs are planning, none of them are saying a word. She takes this to mean that everyone forgot her birthday.
In France, Gargamel is now a celebrity, amazing people with his sorcery, but he sees that he is running low on the Smurf essence that gives him his magic powers. With his new creations, evil smurfs called Naughties Vexy and Hackus, Gargamel plans on opening a portal to the Smurf village by using the Eiffel tower as a conduit so that he can kidnap Smurfette and, through her, get Papa Smurf's secret formula for creating Smurfs. However, as the portal he created is not big enough for him to go through, Gargamel takes Vexy and sends her through to the portal to grab Smurfette and bring her to Paris."-wikipedia
It was nice to see the gang back together in this film but it really is a bit corny. I enjoyed the plot since it shows more of the backstory to Smurfette the only known female smurf.I also enjoyed the new characters they added to the films. It was thanks to these characters that I enjoyed the film but it is no way a good animation film. I happen to dislike 3D, I don't think the animators did a good job with this film. I wish the film could have been better since I watched the original cartoon. I suggest this film to 3d animation fans.

Day 234 - Our Town (Korean)
"A neighbourhood is terrorized by a serial killer who kills and hangs his female victims in a uniquely specific way . When struggling crime fiction novelist Kyung-ju kills his landlady, he stages it to resemble the other murders. Realizing that the crime appears to be a copycat, he sets out to find the killer with the help of his detective friend."
A decent horror film that borderlines on creepy thanks to Ryu Deok-hwan. It was interesting to see the three stars to act since I have seen them all in other movies. I enjoyed the twists in the film and how the plot went. I wouldn't mind watching this again or another movie like this. I suggest this film to horror fans.

Day 233 - Children of a lesser god (American)
"Sarah Norman (Marlee Matlin) is a troubled young deaf woman working as a cleaner at a school for the deaf and hard of hearing in New England. An energetic new teacher, James Leeds (William Hurt), arrives at the school and encourages her to set aside her insular life by learning how to speak aloud.
As she already uses sign language, Sarah resists James's attempts to get her to talk. Romantic interest develops between James and Sarah and they are soon living together, though their differences and mutual stubbornness eventually strains their relationship to the breaking point, as he continues to want her to talk, and she feels somewhat stifled in his presence.
Sarah leaves James and goes to live with her estranged mother (Piper Laurie) in a nearby city, reconciling with her in the process. However, she and James later find a way to resolve their differences"
A great film that features a sweet yet tough romance that is rare. Marlee Matlin is amazing in her debut film and she definitely deserved the awards she earned. The plot was very good and very different from the normal since people like to shy away from the topic of any kind of impairment. This film though features a lead actress who is actually hearing impaired in real life. So it actually adds a lot realism to her role and to the plot itself. William Hurt also did an amazing job which I feel like some people forget due to them just paying attention to Marlee Matlin. He deserves credit for the success of this film since he was also a vital part to the story. I suggest this film to those that like a complicated romance film.

Day 232 - Helpless (Korean)
"A man searches for his fiancée who vanished without a trace, only to discover dark, shocking truths about her and that she wasn’t the person he thought he knew."
Truly a very interesting thriller you thought wouldn't be good when you read the description. Everyone in this film did a great job but it was Jo Sung-ha who truly stood out. His character had a lot of depth as did everyone else but Lee Sun-kyun's character was annoying and didn't seem right for him to play. The script could have been better as could the character development of Lee sun-Kyun's character. I suggest this film that enjoys thrillers with good twists.

Day 231 - Forbidden Quest (Korean)
"2006 South Korean period drama film about a scholar during the Joseon Dynasty who begins to write erotic novels, and becomes the lover of the King's favorite concubine"- wiki
Could have been so much better if it was more serious and maybe with a different supporting cast. I have a problem with the main actor a bit, I couldn't take him serious in the dramatic scenes. Even the camera movement made some of the dramatic scenes seem so fake. Even with the subject matter, I wasn't really happy with how this film turned out. I suggest this film to those that like historical drama that are so corny they should be a comedy.

Day 230 - Marriage Trap (Chinese)
"
Love is all about believing. Ask Gore Guo Tao, he knows it better than anyone does. When he finds himself deeply infatuated by a gorgeous con artist Peachy Hong Tao, he chooses to believe everything she said.
The humble wedding celebrant always dreams about walking the aisle with the love of his life but eventually falls for a wrong girl. Although the wry bachelor smokes out his dream girl bearing multiple identities, sometimes disguising herself in different professions and even with incurable disease, he still tries to marry her at all costs. However Peachy doesn’t hold the same passion in this case, as Gore has unintentionally disrupted her plans and scared the men who fall prey her beauty and charm.
In order to end all these shambles, Peachy decided to admit the truth about herself to cut him loose, but Gore sees the revelation as a honest confession and loves her even more. Yet, the truth hidden beneath finally surfaced; everything turns out to be plotted by Peachy. She actually cons Gore in an unusual way by being honest, but unexpectedly fall in love with him despite initially getting involved for the money. When the dust from the scam clears, a unique spin on this quirky relationship erupts. Victim? Grifter? Which are you?"
Really a poorly done movie that is so full of itself with comedy and romance. The film is all over the place and doesn't really have a purpose or any entertainment value. I suggest you skip this romantic comedy for something better.

Day 229 - Big Trouble In Little China (American)
"Truck driver Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) and his friend, restaurant owner Wang Chi (Dennis Dun), go to the airport to pick up Wang's fiancee Miao Yin (Suzee Pai), who is arriving from China. A Chinese street gang, the Lords of Death, tries to kidnap another Chinese girl at the airport who is being met by her friend Gracie Law (Kim Cattrall), intending to sell her as a sex slave. After Jack intervenes, they take Miao Yin instead. In Jack's big-rig truck, he and Wang track the Lords of Death to the back alleys of Chinatown, where they find a funeral procession that quickly erupts into a street fight between the Chang Sing and Wing Kong, two ancient Chinese societies. When "The Three Storms" (Thunder, Rain, and Lightning) appear, slaughtering the Chang Sing, Jack tries to escape but runs over Lo Pan (James Hong), a powerful and legendary sorcerer, as well as the leader of the Wing Kong"
First off I enjoy the use of both American and Chinese culture in the film. That's all that I really liked besides Suzee Pai because she is very beautiful. I found Kurt Russell's acting very annoying as well everyone else's. I couldn't really enough the film because of that, whoever did the casting did an very poor job. Kim Cattrall wasn't the right actress to portray her character and Dennis dun was a good choice but his acting could have been better. The screenplay was very poorly written and made all of the characters annoying. I was expecting something a little better since not only is this a John Carpenter film but also a Kurt Russell film who is suppose to be a seasoned actor.
I suggest this movie to those that like John Carpenter movies.

Day 228 - Love At Seventh Sight (Hong Kong)
"sound engineer Ziqi (Mike He), who takes a sabbatical in Beijing where he meets Bai Ye (Lulu Li), a young woman who hails from screenwriter fantasy land. The lovely, gentle Bai Ye asks Ziqi - who, mind you, is a complete stranger - to accompany her on an unexpected road trip in her fully-equipped RV. Since Bai Ye has lustrous long hair and looks like a Zhou Xun knockoff, Ziqi goes along, but oddly enough he seems to admire her RV (which he calls his "dream car") far more than her." -lovehkfilm
Truly this film begins by pushing you straight into the story which isn't good since we have no clue what the story is really about since the characters just meet in the very beginning with the girl suddenly kissing the guy on the cheek. Its like watching a very bad drama movie at the beginning but it slowly gets better as the film carries on. I won't say anything else about the plot since it will ruin the movie. I enjoyed the last half of the film but I felt like this director was quite inexperienced. This film had a lot of potential that was wasted do to poor direction, cinematography but is merely acceptable thanks to the stellar two leads. If you really want to watch this movie then I suggest it to those that like dramatic romance movies.

Day 227 - Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons (Chinese)
"A young village girl plays by the river and her father frightens her by pretending to be a fish demon, although he is then killed by a mysterious underwater creature. A Taoist priest kills a giant manta ray and insists the demon is dead. Buddhist demon hunter Sanzang appears to warn the animal is not the true demon but is violently ignored. The demon reemerges and kills a number of villagers but Sanzang is able to beach the fish-like demon, which turns into a man. Sanzang then opens a book of nursery rhymes and begins to sing to the man. The man feels harassed and attacks Sanzang but another demon hunter, Duan appears and captures him in her cloth, turning him into a puppet. Sanzang reveals to Duan that his master taught him a humanist approach and to use nursery rhymes to coax goodness out of demons, a tactic Duan scoffs at. Disillusioned, Sanzang meets back up with his master and bemoans his lack of capabilities in comparison to more aggressive demon-hunters such as Duan. His master reaffirms his philosophy of trying to reform evil demons and sends him off again, telling him to find "enlightenment.""
Truly an interesting film that will make you laugh and have a good time. If you have seen Badges of Fury then you'll be used to Wen Zhang's type of comedic performance. He is even funnier in this film than in the other film. Wen Zhang is truly an interesting actor who is good at both dramatic and comedic roles. Shu Qi also stands out as her role doesn't require her to look pretty even though she still does. This is her most badass role since she actually practices martial arts and performs them on camera. I simply adore her ability as an actress to perform different types of roles in a movie as well being able to make it look natural. I don't know any of the other actors by name sadly but they did a good job as well. The story seemed short despite the length of the movie but it was still good and has me interested on the story behind the film. I suggest this film to anyone that likes Chinese comedies that are easy and interesting to watch.

Yang Lu Chan evolves from the Bumbling Idiot into the first stage of being the most formidable Tai Chi Master and wins the heart of Chen Yu Niang a beautiful Chinese model cum actress."
A fantastic sequel that is just as good as the first. Angelababy is still very good at portraying this character, it is always a treat to see her act. The actor who plays Lu Chan does a great job with slowly having the character change. Thumbs up to the director who get a great job with this sequel!

Day 225 - Tai Chi Zero (Chinese/Hong Kong)
"As the mother was breathing her last breaths, Zhao informed his mother of Lu Chan's potential. Right before she died, she told Lu Chan that he only had to do one thing well: kung fu. Many years later and Lu Chan is revealed to be a loyal and skilled soldier of the Divine Truth Cult, a rebel force against the Emperor. This is because it was revealed that the entertainer Zhao was actually a general of the Cult, looking for any potential recruits to his army in disguise. It is also shown that Zhao continuously abused Lu Chan's special power to win battles, even though it has proven to be harmful to his health and will eventually lead to his death. The Cult's doctor informs Lu Chan of his impending death and that the only way to prevent it is to go to Chen Village and learn Chen-style kung fu from Grandmaster Chen Chang Xiang"
This is the acting debut of the lead actor which is quite impressive. Since he did a great job at playing this character you would have never thought this was his debut. I enjoyed the film it was a mixture of comedy, history, martial arts, romance, and war. It is really an interesting film, I even enjoyed the short details of every actor that plays an important character in the film. It was a nice touch especially for someone who doesn't recognize Chinese stars. I suggest this film to those that like good comedic marital art films.

Day 224 - The Proving Grounds (American)
"“The Proving Grounds” goes in-depth at Jackson’s MMA in New Mexico to provide a look at the gym. Jones, UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, Carlos Condit, Diego Sanchez and others are featured."
Not that bad of a documentary, if you are a fan of MMA like me then this is a must watch film. It gives us an inside look into one of the best MMA gyms in the entire world. We should be thankful that we are able to see inside the gym that trained George Saint Pierre, Diego Sanchez, Jon "Bones" Jones, and many other big names in the MMA world. This is an in depth look and you really feel excited to see how these guys train in order to do what they chose as careers. it's not boring at all but you have to have to enjoy MMA to really understand the film unless you are super open-minded. Day 223 - Road to Ninja (Japanese)
"Naruto Uzumaki and his Hidden Leaf peers track and drive off members of the Akatsuki who should no longer be alive. While his friends are praised by their families, Naruto wallows in loneliness before he is taken by his teammate Sakura Haruno to the park to hear her complain about her parents. However, Naruto revealed to have been tagged by the Akatsuki, the two are ambushed by Tobi as he uses the Limited Tsukuyomi (限定月読, Gentei Tsukuyomi?) to transport them into an alternate reality based on their inner thoughts. Being called Menma (メンマ?), Naruto and Sakura are surprised to find their friends acting the exact opposite of their usual selves along with a flirty Sasuke who never left the village. While Sakura learns that her parents are dead with her father as the reality's Fourth Hokage, Naruto sees his parents, Minato and Kushina, alive and well. Shortly after, Naruto and Sakura participate in a mission to retrieve the Red Moon scroll which details on how to defeat a mysterious masked ninja. During the mission, Kushina is injured when she protects Naruto and dissuades the youth's refusal to bond with his parents.
"-wiki
Not bad but I wish the storyline was different and Naruto was just sent back into time instead of going to an alternative world under the influence of tobi. I hate the fact that Sakura is with Naruto when he goes to the other world as I dislike her. It was hard to imagine that I would actually feel something from this movie but I did. An overwhelming amount of sadness as we see how Naruto's life would have been if his parents were still alive. That element is the best part of the movie and really the only part of the movie I like.
I suggest this to Naruto fans

Day 222- You're My Pet (Korean)
"
The film centers around a young and ambitious woman named Ji Eun-Yi (Kim Ha-neul) and her human pet (Jang Keun-suk).
After her fiancé leaves her for his mistress and Ji Eun-Yi is demoted at work, she stumbles across a young injured homeless man in a box outside her condominium. She takes him in and becomes attached to him. As a joke, she says she wants to keep him as a pet, and to her surprise, the young man agrees. She names him Momo, after her beloved dog from her childhood. Ji Eun-Yi provides room and board, and Momo provides unconditional love and loyalty. Momo, whose name is Kang In-Ho, is a dance child prodigy who gradually brings happiness to his master's life."
Even with the experienced Kim Ha-neul, this film is a total bore fest. I nearly fell asleep while watching the movie, I really didn't like Jang Keun-suk or any of the other characters. I also felt like Kim Ha-neul was rather restrained despite the fact that this adaption of the manga should have been risqué. This film really was transformed into an below average romantic comedy. I suggest you skip this movie.

Sung-soo is a successful businessman who lives with his wife Min-ji and their children in a luxury apartment. Life is mostly good, except for an older brother from whom he's estranged.
One day, Sung-soo receives a phone call that his brother is missing and goes to his brother's apartment building for the first time in decades to look for him. There, he finds strange symbols carved into every door and meets Joo-hee and her young daughter. Joo-hee is convinced that someone is spying on them and lives in constant fear.
Sung-soo figures out that the symbols carved onto the doors are "hide and seek codes" that indicate gender and number of people. Then when he returns home, he finds similar symbols carved into his door."
Not bad but could have been much better if they went in another direction. The direction the plot took was average and caused there to be a few matters that could have been taken out of the film. No problems are really fixed in the movie, they are overlooked. I enjoyed the lead actor though, it is the first time I've seen him as a lead and hope its not the last. Day 220 - Heaven is open only to the single (Korean)
"Actress Yoon-So (Choi Yoon-So) is dumped by her boyfriend, who is a comedian. Their breakup becomes a huge scandal and, because of this, her management company forbids her from dating. Even though guys ask her out, Yoon-So isn't in the mood. The only comfort she finds is to listen to Sang-Soon's (Lee Sang-Soon) songs.
Neung-Ryong (Lee Neung-Ryong) is a 35-year-old musician. Due to his sister, Neung-Ryong goes to a dating/marriage agency, but finds out he isn't eligible due to his poor background. One day, Neung-Ryong is asked to create the soundtrack for a movie. He feels something strange when watching Yoon-So on the screen. "
This film had a lot of potential to be something great but fails due to many things. First off the camera movement was annoying and very shaky most of the time. It felt like a very low budget film that some amateur made and other times it looks professional. So the camera movement leaves you slightly confused. I enjoyed Choi Yoo-so she is a descent actress that could have a really big future if she takes roles that will help her evolve as an actress. It was very interesting to see the first time actor Lee Neung-Ryong even though he felt like he was an experience actor. The story is descent but could have been done differently and made longer. Because as it is the ending seemed rushed leaving the audience hanging a bit. There was a critical plot point that was overlooked by the director which made the story suffer a bit. I enjoyed the ending they made, as it hints towards romance because of the looks and the air around the two stars. The one thing that really saved this movie was the music! It wasn't the stereotypical K-pop but really heartfelt music that attracts the audience to listen. I am going to be looking up Lee Neung-Ryong's music to see how good it is. I suggest this film to those that like to see romantic movies.

Day 219 - Manhunter (American)
"Will Graham (William Petersen) is a former FBI criminal profiler who has retired because of a breakdown after being attacked by a cannibalistic serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecktor (Brian Cox). Graham is approached at his Florida home by his former FBI superior Jack Crawford (Dennis Farina), who is seeking help with a new serial killer case. Promising his wife (Kim Greist) that he will do nothing more than examine evidence and not risk physical harm, Graham agrees to visit the most recent crime scene in Atlanta, where he tries to enter the mindset of the killer, now dubbed the "Tooth Fairy" by the police for the bite-marks left on his victims."
I didn't like it that much, it was kind of stale without that many worthy scenes. Hannibal Lector should of had a bigger part in the film, even though Brian Cox's adaption of the character is far below Anthony Hopkin's portrayal of the notorious killer. I kind of didn't like the fact that the main character was William Petersen. Whoever picked the cast didn't know how to do their job well or was new to the job. Everyone was boring in the film, thankfully Red Dragon would be a slightly better movie than this one.

A very poorly done film that could have been good. The last half is better than the first half and is enjoyable but I couldn't feel for the characters. Detective Chief Inspector Ivan Lewis (Steven Mackintosh) from Internal Affairs starts to scrutinise Regan's activities – he is not aware that Regan is having an affair with his estranged wife, Flying Squad officer Nancy Lewis (Hayley Atwell)."
Not bad of a movie but isn't as good as other police action dramas that are out there. It was interesting to see Damian Lewis in the film as it was the first time I heard him speak with his ascent. Hayley Atwell was beautiful in the film but doesn't stay long. Ray Winstone was interesting as always as the leader and main star of the film. I wouldn't suggest you watch this unless you are very into British films.

Day 216- Space Pirate Captain Harlock (Japanese)
"In the future, mankind has discovered a way to travel faster than light and has built colonies on thousands of planets. With humanity fading and the resources of the universe starting to dwindle, some five hundred billion humans began the long journey back home, Earth. However, humanity has outgrown its capacity to repatriate that many people and thus began the "Homecoming War," where the many factions of humanity battled for a stake on Earth. The war was long and bloody, things wouldn't subside until an authoritarian universal government by the name of the Gaia Sanction declares Earth a sacred planet, and thus forbidden for humanity to repopulate.
To prevent various factions of humanity from immigrating back to Earth, an elite wing of the Gaia Fleet was tasked to defend Earth: The Deathshadow Martyr Fleet, led by Harlock. With the assistance of his scientist friend, Tochiro Ōyama, Harlock helped saved a dying advanced alien race called the Nibelung. In return for their help, the Nibelung gave Harlock their advanced technology and helped create the four Deathshadow-class ships with dark matter engines to defend Earth. Harlock's ships were unstoppable and he successfully defended Earth from humanity's influence, until the Gaia Sanction broke their own rules.
A peace treaty was created to prevent future bloodshed from various factions of humanity, however, it was under the condition that the diplomatic elite would be allowed to immigrate. Unfortunately, this didn't sit well with Harlock as he felt it was a betrayal of what he believed in as well as the hypocrisy of the Gaia Sanction. Enraged, Harlock broke rank and killed all the immigrants and set his guns upon his own fleet. With only the Arcadia in his command, the ship was badly damaged and was being boarded. In a high-risk gamble for survival and protection of the Earth, Harlock asked Miime (Nibelung observer and engineer of his ship) to unleash dark matter upon the Earth to protect it from humanity. Sadly, the gamble was made at a terrible cost."
This is an amazing 3D animation movie, it was also the first time I have seen Captain Harlock and his crew. I think Captain Harlock is a very amazing character that has more depth than someone would think. His story was completely interesting to see as well seeing his crew and their loyalty to their captain. I hated the character of Logan, he was completely annoying with no real value to me. I could tell how they were going to set up the ending of the film due to how Logan looks. That's also why I dislike the ending because I don't think it was befitting of the Captain. I wish we could have heard more about the crew and why they have loyalty to the captain. They didn't have all that much depth so it could have helped the film if they had done so. I also hated Logan's older brother Ezra who was completely annoying as well and useless to me. I suggest this film to those that like 3D animation films.

Day 215 - White Vengeance (Chinese)
"The film is loosely based on events in the Chu–Han Contention, an interregnum between the fall of the Qin dynasty and the founding of the Han dynasty in Chinese history. The film's Chinese title is a reference to the Feast at Hong Gate, one of the highlights of that era."
I have always disliked the Han dynasty as well communism era China as well. But I never knew about the fight between Han and Chu. I enjoyed more about the Chu and I was sad since I knew from the beginning that they wouldn't win. I would much rather had the Chu come into power rather than the Han. Its the same for the movie, the people of the Chu side were the better actors and had better characters. Feng Shaofeng was stellar as Xiang Yu, he was a much better actor and had a better character than Leon Lai. Liu Yifei did a nice job as well, I hope to see her in more movies in the future. The two characters that Feng Shaofeng and Liu Yifei had a tragic romance that was good but failed to draw out that much emotions because they don't have a lot of screen time together. What little time they did have was managed quite well. It was also nice to see Anthony Wong again, since I have seen him in a ton of movies before. I have to say Feng Shaofeng as Xiang Yu was the best in the film, he took us on a wonderful journey. This film is for those that like Chinese action and historical films.

Day 214 - Knuckle (Irish)
"This film follows 12 years in the lives of three Irish Traveller families (Joyces, Nevins, and Quinns) and their bitter feuds and fights. The film explores the reasons why they hold these fights and explores in-depth these families' secret life, which is barely known to outsiders of the Traveller community. The real reason for the feud among the families is never revealed, as they will not talk about it to outsiders."
A very interesting documentary that shows us the taboo world of the Traveller families bare knuckle fights that outsiders don't get to see. The director followed these families for 12 years, he was there for some of the action. Even after all these years he is still treated as an outsider, so we are not able to see a few of the fights because of legal reasons. Ian Palmer made this stellar documentary, that any one interested should watch this film. This a true story about 3 clans that fight in matches with only their fists that they call "fair fights". The fights are not professional, so don't expect professional fighting but fights worth watching. But the film is much more than fights and I'll leave it at that.

Day 213 - Ocean Heaven (Chinese/Hong Kong)
"Ocean Heaven is about a terminally ill father, Sam Wong (Jet Li) as he works his job in an aquarium and struggles to look after his 21-year-old son Dafu, who has autism (Wen Zhang). Sam has single-handedly brought up his son since his wife died 14 years ago and looks after him day and night attempting to help him learn basic tasks in order to care for himself, as well as searching for a home for his son before he passes away. As the story progresses, the growing relationship between father and son as well as the community around them become clearer"-wiki
A heartfelt film around such a horrible disorder called Autism that haunts many people. It was truly interesting to see Jet Li in such a dramatic role, not a single time did he raise a fist or a leg in this whole movie. He was actually good, I was quite surprised at how much I liked his performance in this film as a dying father. Wen Zhang was truly amazing, I didn't notice a single mistake about his performance it is almost as if he had the disorder. These two just helped each other to be a better actor which is a rare find in this modern world. These two characters walk the same path in life but are slowly going away from each other. Sam Wong tries his best in order to get Dafu to be more independent so he doesn't have to worry about him after he leaves. Dafu must struggle past his disorder in order to learn everything his father is teaching him. The struggles of these two people are truly heart filling and wonderful you want to know what happens next. I suggest this film to those that don't know what autism is and love dramatic films. Please don't watch this film if just want to see Jet Li fight, he doesn't do any kind of martial art in this film.

Day 212- The Berlin File (Korean)
"After a tense illegal arms deal in a Berlin hotel involving North Korean spy Pyo Jong-seong (Ha Jung-woo), a Russian broker, and a Middle Eastern terrorist goes wrong when disrupted by unknown assailants, Pyo narrowly escapes but encounters morass of conflicting evidence that may reveal why he was set up."
Not so good but not that bad! The Berlin File could have been great, it had potential but failed to be a great thriller. Some of the scenes were shot horribly and it looked fake at one point. The acting was okay, I think the best acting came from Ryoo Seung-bum. His character just came a live but everyone else was bit boring, annoying, or having a bad day. I like Han Suk-kyu but his English made me want to hit him it was horrible. Every time he spoke in English just annoyed me but when speaking Korean he wasn't that bad in the film. Ha Jung-woo wasn't half bad either, I just wish he had a stronger character but alas he didn't. The English speaking actors in the film as usual were horrible actors and should retire. I don't know why in Korean movies most of the people that "speak" English sound like they are mentality slow. Not the best out there but I'll still suggest it for people that like spy thrillers.

Day 211 - Assualt on Wall Street (American/Canadian)
"In the midst of the financial crisis, a portfolio-manager instructs his employees to neglect the best-interest of clients in order to increase company profits.
Meanwhile, Jim Baxford (Dominic Purcell), a former soldier and armored car driver, lives with his wife, Rosie, in New York City. Rosie is in the process of recovering from a near-fatal brain tumor. Their health insurance has reached its limit, and Jim finds that he is unable to afford her treatment. He decides to cash in the pension he earned from serving in the military, but learns that much of it is lost as a result of bad investments on the part of his financial advisor. In addition, he finds himself in a $60,000 lawsuit as a result of bad real-estate investments conducted by his rogue financial advisor. Jim borrows $10,000 from a colleague to pay for an attorney to sue his financial advisor, and arranges a meeting with an assistant district attorney to discuss wrongdoings on the part of his financial advisors. However, the attorney he hired claims that he is unable to do anything and the assistant district attorney is unwilling to meet with him. Jim becomes frustrated at the loss of his money and his inability to pay for his wife's treatment and their mortgage. Because of his financial situation, his employer reluctantly fires him, as the company is not willing to trust him with large sums of money.
Rosie feels guilty for the financial strain that her illness has put on Jim and, unable to cope, commits suicide. Jim blames Wall Street financiers for ruining his life. Seeking vengeance, he purchases various firearms and grenades from an arms dealer, and begins a one-man army shooting spree on the Wall Street bosses that lost his money and contributed to the death of his wife. One by one, he kills those that have wronged him. The climax of the film has Jim staging a one-man assault and infiltration of a high-rise office building to confront and kill Jeremy Stancroft, a ruthless and greedy banker who is indirectly responsible for Jim's financial situation"
Not the best movie out there but I think that the message is clear. No one nowadays cares about the little people, the people that do the jobs most people don't want to do from a security guard to a police officer. Everyone in this film suffers but those on top until the end of the movie. The people on top are barely human, they don't care if they destroy many of the little people in order to just get fatter pockets even if they already have billions of dollars. This happens all the time in every country in the world! Yet we still let it stand because the people with the billions of dollars are the ones that actually ran the countries.
Now back to the movie, this film features many seasoned actors like the star Dominic Purcell who appeared in prison break, Keith David (Pitch Black, Dead Presidents), Edward Furlong (American History X), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight, Runaway Train) and a few others. Yet the film suffers due to dialogue and sub par acting. I enjoyed the message of the film more and especially enjoyed the end of the film as I would do the same thing. We see this average American guy go through so much trouble and eventually snap. Towards the end he starts to stand up for whats right and he gets revenge.
