Day 272 - Greenchair 2013(Korean)

Green Chair 2013 - Love Conceptually, 2013-p1.jpg

"
Moon-Hee studied in the USA before returning to South Korea. She now runs an art institute. Moon-Hee has lived separately from her husband, because her husband doesn't want to divorce. Moon-Hee has an intimate relationship with her long-time lover In-Gyu and Professor Yoon.
Meanwhile, Moon-Hee’s  student Joo-Won always draws Moon-Hee’s face during class. When Joo-Won was young, his grandmother took him to a wedding. There, he saw Moon-Hee for the first time in a wedding dress. Joo-Won fell in love with her at first sight. To finally meet her, he takes her class. "

The first green chair was a thousand times better as it had depth and decent sex scenes. This film features bad camera choices, poor acting and dull sex scenes that leaving you bored rather than excited. Sadly we will not be able to see another green chair since the director was killed in the 2013 in a car accident. I will say that some of the acting towards the later half of the movie was decent enough for me to give this film 1 star. I enjoyed the plot a lot but wish it was used differently.

Day 271 - Dangerously excited (Korean)

Dangerously Excited poster.jpg
"
Han Dae-hee (Yoon Je-moon) is a low level city government employee in the Mapo district of Seoul. His department handles various issues like trash, noise, and public safety. Dae-hee isn't married, nor does he have a girlfriend at the moment. He also doesn't have many hobbies. Dae-hee enjoys memorizing facts from books to impress his colleagues and watching television until falling asleep. You can say he is conservative and his job at the city government office suits him well.
Within the Mapo district lies the Hongdae area famous for the thriving indie rock music scene. Dae-hee leaves with a co-worker to talk with a band who has received numerous complaints from neighbors about loud noise in a residential neighborhood.
The band is practicing for their next album which is coming out in the upcoming days. They are disheartened when Dae-hee and his co-worker informs them they have to stop playing in their rented basement. During their talk, a man comes by and offers the band to rent his attic room for a generous price. Dae-hee and his co-worker knows something is fishy, but just go about their business.
The next day, the band discovers their musical instruments and rent money stolen by the con man who offered to rent his apartment. Meanwhile, they become angry at civil worker Dae-hee who introduced them to the con man. They go visit Dae-hee at his office."

Its nice to see Yoon Je-moon in a starring film for the first time. He really made this film interesting and I like the fact he doesn't play a bad guy in the film. I enjoyed seeing the character change present in the film mainly with Han Dae-hee. Everyone else was bland which caused the value of the film to go down. The plot was horribly used and the ending leaves you feeling cheated. I suggest you don't watch this film.

Day 270 - 2424 (Korean)

2424.jpg
"
Park Tae-ho Jung Woong-In is running an underground organization, which specializes in the smuggling of jewellery. In order to bust the crime ring, the police assigns an undercover agent to join the group who discovers evidence for the alleged illegal proceedings of the gang. Tae-ho who does not want to get caught, hides the jewellery, which is worth 3 billion won in display objects and plans to transport everything out of Korea. Therefore, the police launches a mission called 2424 (which means movement in Korean) under the supervision of Choi Doo-chil Jeon Kwang-Leol to solve the case. However, both the police and the mob lose track of the precious jewels during the course of transport; thus a dramatic search on both sides ensues "

An off the wall comedy that crash lands in the trash can. There are a few laughable moments but the rest of the film seems so forced that nothing works. I do like the romance that buds between the female cop and the male mover. It really is the only thing to like about this movie, I was expecting something good but I was let down.

Day 269 - Looking for a Star (Hong Kong)

LookForAStar.jpg

"It is love at first sight when Sam chances upon a feisty, fast-talking woman with the odd name of Milan (Shu Qi) at a Macau casino. But the catch is, she is a part-time Baccarat dealer and a full-time cabaret dancer, “careers” not exactly congruent with his station in life. Fallen in love against all odds, this mismatched couple soon makes headline in all media which turn Milan into an It girl overnight."

A romantic comedy that starts off slow and only goes a little faster later on. This film features two amazing leads Andy Lau and Shu Qi. I wish that their love story could have been better with a tad bit more drama. I enjoyed watching these two perform together, it almost seemed natural and I hope they will star in another movie together. Not only do we get to witness their love story we also see the love stories of Sam's (Andy Lau) chauffeur who falls in love with a single mother and Sam's secretary who falls for a poor man. The two added love stories add depth to the film but it felt like the film needed more drama in order to evoke true emotions. Shu Qi was excellent in this film, its no wonder she is my favorite actress.

Day 268 - Broken (Korean)

Broken (2014) poster.jpg

"Widower Lee Sang-hyeon lives a quiet life with his 15-year-old daughter Su-jin. But one day she is abducted and raped, and her corpse is found at a derelict public bathhouse. Sang-hyeon is left helpless in the face of his daughter's death, with nothing left to cling on to but his feelings of anger and despair. The investigation into his daughter's death is progressing slowly, so restless and unable to sit quiet any longer, he decides to take matters into his own hands. Sang-hyeon receives an anonymous text message with information on the culprit, including an address where the sender claims Sang-hyeon would find electronic evidence of the crime; when he gets there, he sees a man, Kim Cheol-yong laughing as he watches a video showing Su-jin's rape and murder. Sang-hyeon accidentally kills Cheol-yong in a fit of rage, and upon learning that Cheol-yong had an accomplice, becomes hellbent on finding the second rapist/murderer. Upon examining Cheol-yong's murder scene, Jang Eok-gwan, the detective who leads the investigation into Su-jin's murder, realizes that Sang-hyeon was the killer and sets out on his trail"

A thought provoking film that will you leave you questioning society. Not only is it a thriller but it is a thriller with a heart. Jung Jae-young was able to successfully express the characters emotions perfectly to the point that you feel for him. I enjoyed the film quite a lot but it was heart wrenching at times thanks to the wonderful acting and powerful images. Lee Sung-min did a great job as a supporting actor which would be pretty hard. He was able to express the conflicted emotions that a detective feels. This two actors were able to make this movie great, this film had a great casting director. Broken is Lee Jeong-ho's second movie as a director and it doesn't show. He was able to tell a touching/conflicted story.

Day 267 - Fall Guy (Japanese-1982)

Fall Guy.jpg

"Ginshiro visits the cramped apartment of Yasu with his actress girlfriend Konatsu (Keiko Matsuzaka), begging Yasu to marry Konatsu because she is pregnant, and the story could ruin Ginshiro's already waning career. Expressing this fact depresses Ginshiro, who demands Yasu watch as he forcibly has sex with Konatsu"

This is a romantic comedy film that is over the top but still manages to have a heart. The film was excellent I enjoyed Mitsuru Hirata's performance as Yasu. He was excellent and it was quite enjoyable to see him act. Keiko Matsuzaka was such a beauty and a good actress. I hope I can find more movies from them. I suggest this film to those that like Japanese comedies with a mix of romance.

Day 266 -The Grandmaster (Hong Kong)

The Grandmaster poster.jpg

"The film chronicles the life of the Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man from the 1930s in Foshan, his flight to Hong Kong after the Second Sino-Japanese War, and the events leading to his death."

A nice martial arts film but it lacks to have the power of Wilson Yip's IP Man. The whole time I watched this film I was comparing it to Yips and this film failed to be even close as good as his. I like Tony Leung but I kind of felt he needed more realism in his movies, it was wasn't really exciting to see him perform. Zhang Ziyi gave the best performance in the film, she kind of overshadowed Tony Leung with her wonderful performance. The story was excellent as was the sets, costume designs, and make up. I suggest this film to those that like martial art films that are more than just fighting.

DAy 265 -suicide forecast (korean)

TheSuicideForecast2010Poster.jpg

"Baseball player-turned-insurance salesman Byung-woo (Ryoo Seung-bum) is seen as the cocky ace of his company until one of his clients commits suicide. The police suspect him of aiding and abetting the suicide, which almost jeopardizes Byung-woo's career. Anxious to ensure it won't happen again, he gets in touch with his previous clients. Particularly those who seem the type to commit suicide.
During his quest to turn their lives around for the better, Byung-woo reunites with a lonely husband (Park Chul-min), a debt-ridden lounge singer (Younha), a homeless young man (Im Joo-hwan), and a widowed mother (Jung Sun-kyung)."  WIKI

An impressive movie, it has true value and a meaning behind it. I enjoyed the character development as well as the connections the main character created with everyone else. This kind of made me a fan of Ryoo Seung-bum, he was truly impressive in this film. All the other actors in the film were quite good as well and some gave the best performance of their careers. I enjoyed this film very much and I suggest this film to everyone.

Day 264 - Silent War (Chinese/Hong Kong)

The Silent War film poster.jpg

"a blind man who superior hearing because a spy for the Chinese government"

Excellent acting from Tony Leung Chiu-Wai and Zhou Xun. I kind of hate the romance in the film because it gives you something different than from what you would expect. Also in that factor I enjoyed that in the romance factor the film wasn't predictable. I enjoyed seeing china being depicted during the 1950s. I hate the strong sense of pro-communism/anti in the film and this movie kind of made me want to stop watching Chinese films. Despite that this is still a good film mainly due to Tony Leung Chiu-Wai's performance

Day 263 - My Mother, the Mermaid (Korean)

My Mother the Mermaid movie poster.jpg
"Na-young (Jeon Do-yeon) is an office worker who lives with her seemingly emotionally non-existent father Jin-kook (Kim Bong-geun), and loud cynical mother Yeon-soon (Go Doo-shim). As time passes she is becoming more and more like her mother Yeon-soon.
One day her father suddenly disappears and she skips her international airplane flight to find him. By entering her father's hometown she is somehow transported back in time to when her parents' relationship was just beginning"

Quite an interesting film that had a great plot but really failed to make a great movie. The lighting was excellent it matched the theme of the film. The costume and make up were all nice choices for this film. It was a great choice to make it a poor family because it seems more realistic this way and the costume design really helped make this film better. There really was to fakeness to beauty, what you see is what you get. That is one aspect of this film to be admired. There are many plot holes that make you want to throw this movie away and never watch it again. It happens to be an okay film that could have used a slightly better plot.

Day 262 - Deadly Code aka Educazione siberiana (italian)

Siberian Education.jpg

"A drama based on a memoir about growing up as a member of the Urka community in the small republic of Transnistriaz"

It was kind of slow and dull for most of the movie. I didn't care for any characters or actors in the film except for John Malkovich who is the only reason to watch this film. Sadly he is not in the film for long but his performance was well done. The lighting was also good which was quite a surprise. I think the town and costume design was well matched. I would have to suggest a better plot and better character development.

Day 261 - Handphone (Korean)

Handphone.jpg

"Talent manager Seung-min sees Yoon Jin-ah, a rising actress, as his one last hope to turn his life around. Just as Jin-ah is on the path to stardom, he receives a threat from her former lover and gets her sex clip on his phone. Seung-min tracks down the culprit and retrieves the tape but ends up losing his phone. He realizes there is one last evidence of the sex tape on his phone and anxiously looks for it. Yi-gyu, who found Seung-min's phone, calls Seung-min's wife and asks her to come pick it up. On the night the phone was supposed to be returned, Yi-gyu doesn't show up. Now Yi-gyu is the one holding the leverage. Seung-min tries to do everything possible to get back his phone but Yi-gyu's demands are escalating to the point of no return"

A lot of crap wrapped up and given to us as a film. Handphone happens to be one of the worst Korean movies I have seen. It was bland, everything was predictable and it felt like the director ran out of ideas in the middle of the film.  The cast was well selected but poorly used as there is nothing that can save this film. The script could have been a thousand times better. I do like the grittiness of the film since it adds realism but that is the only thing that truly stands out to me. Uhm Tae-woong did well but his character wasn't well written. One member of the cast that shouldn't have been in the film was Kim Nam-gil

Day 260 - Perfect Number (korean)

Perfect Number poster.jpg

"Kim Seok-go showed a lot of promise as a brilliant mathematician when he was in school, resolutely focused on his studies rather than on friends throughout his childhood. Now in his 30s, he's an ordinary high school math teacher, a far cry from the promising future of his youth. Seok-go is solemn and introverted, and his morning exchanges with Baek Hwa-sun, the cafe employee he buys lunch from, is the brightest part of his day. When Hwa-sun's ex-husband mercilessly beats Hwad-sun and her niece, Hwa-sun kills him. Seok-go overhears the fight from his house next door and decides to cover up the killing and protect her from the police. He uses his genius in meticulously planning the perfect alibi for her, and thanks to his efforts, Hwa-sun is cleared in the case. However, the detective in charge, Jo Min-beom, believes that Hwa-sun is guilty and follows his intuition despite the lack of evidence. Min-beom also happens to have gone to the same high school as Seok-go, and when he finds out that his old school friend lives next door to the prime suspect, he starts digging deeper into Seok-go's life"

A nice thriller that has been added to my favorite Korean movie lists. I have never been a fan of Ryoo Seung-bum but in this film he truly showed himself as an excellent actor. Even Lee Yo-won proved that she could show off that she is an actress and doesn't always play the same kind of character. The story was truly interesting and kept me guessing the whole time. I enjoyed the thrill of the movie and I could relate to Kim Seok-go (Ryoo Seung-bum) loneliness. In that regard Ryoo Seung-bum did an excellent job. I suggest this film to those that like dramatic mysteries.

Day 259 - Marriage Blue (Korean)

"Korean romantic comedy film that follows the misadventures of four engaged couples in the week leading up to their weddings" - wiki

The plot of the film was truly interesting since we get to see multiple sides of four couples and their reasons for love as well and their reasons for marriage. At times I really only liked Kim Kang-woo and Kim Hyo-jin's characters but eventually I came around to like 3 out of four of the couples. I kind of hated Lee Yeon-hee and Ju Ji-hoon's romance because it was so predictable and quite tame. Also on a side note when will Ok Taecyoon ever get a girl in a film? I like how diverse the film is and how we get to see the relationships evolve during the film. I suggest this film to those that like romantic comedies with a lot of characters.

Day 258 - Rockin' on Heavens Door (Korean)

Truly a heart touching film that might make you change the way you view life. All of the characters have depth even if some are not in the film the wole time. I enjoyed this film as it made me feel as we witnessed the characters growth and eventual touches with death. Its not all sad there are moments that touch your heart that isn't about the realism of death. At the same time despite the smiles in the film, death surrounds everyone in the film besides two people. I found a tiny fault in Lee Hong-ki's acting as some times I didn't like him. He has a nice voice at times but felt it could have been better. Everyone else was on top of their game in this film like well known supporting actors Lim Won-hee and Ma Dong Seok. Present in the film is a wonderful lead actress Baek Jin-Hee but really everyone made this film a fantastic movie to watch. I suggest this film to those that like heart touching movies.

Day 257 - Good Morning Vietnam (American)

Good Morning, Vietnam.jpg

"In 1965, Airman Second Class Adrian Cronauer (Williams) arrives in Saigon from Crete to work as a DJ for Armed Forces Radio Service. Cronauer is greeted by Private First Class Edward Montesquieu Garlick (Whitaker). Cronauer's irreverence contrasts sharply with many staff members and soon rouses the ire of two of his superiors, Second Lieutenant Steven Hauk (Kirby) and Sergeant Major Phillip Dickerson (Walsh). Hauk adheres to strict Army guidelines in terms of humor and music programming, while Dickerson is generally abusive to all enlisted men. However, Brigadier General Taylor (Willingham) and the other DJs quickly grow to like the new man and his brand of comedy. Cronauer's show consists of unpredictable humor segments mixed with news updates (vetted by the station censors) and rock and roll records that are frowned upon by his superiors"

So far my favorite performance of the late great Robin Williams. This film is funny but at the same time you can grasp a feeling of all the dark concepts of war. It was quite an interesting take for a war movie to choose to do. With Robin Williams acting it all seemed so natural that it was almost effortless. It was truly amazing to see this stellar comedy drama that makes you realize the true feelings of war. The plot is great I enjoyed it, it takes a lot of courage to make a film based on the Vietnam and it takes even more courage to fill it with comedy. We get to see a new side of the Vietnam the one where the war wasn't being fought but we got to see the daily life's of the citizens. For me that was unexpected and really added a unique flare to the film. As well as the failed romance between Cronauer and a Vietnamese girl which added a touch more realism to the film. I enjoyed the fact that despite Cronauer being the main character it wasn't all about him.  We see Cronauer grow as a DJ and as a man, we also experience a new way of thinking after finishing this film. I suggest this film to those that like comedy dramas and Robin Williams.

"GOODBYE VIETNAM!"

Day 256 - On the other side of the Tracks (French)

"When bad boy police officer Ousmane is involved in a car accident, he is mistaken for the assailant by his fellow police officers. The next day, the wife of a business mogul turns up nearby Ousmane's housing project. Ousmane draws connections between the two crimes and believes is able to solve both crimes. In order to be heard by fellow police officers, Ousmane is forced to team up with visiting Parisian investigator Francois Monge, who has much more departmental clout. Despite coming from and working in very different neighborhoods, the pair find common ground through their policing style, including manhandling suspects and kicking butt."

One of the better buddy cop films that I have seen but it fails to be all that good. I enjoyed Omar Sy's performance but it seemed a bit cliché and somewhat annoying at times. While I found Laurent Lafitte's performance to be okay but it was kind of bland. The film was kind of short but it still managed to use its time well. There's not a ton of action so don't go expecting an American buddy cop film but what it lacks in action there is comedy. The comedy wasn't stale it was quite enjoyable, you can determine the characters motives and personality types by the way they tell jokes. I suggest this film to those that like buddy cop films.

Day 255 - Tabloid Truth (Korean)

Leaflet - Korean Movie-p1.jpg
"Woo-Gon (Kim Kang-Woo) works for a talent agency as a manager. He spots Mi-Jin (Ko Won-Hee) at an audition. Woo-Gon feels that Mi-Jin is special and has the potential to become a star. Because of Woo-Gon's efforts, Mi-Jin is cast in a movie, but this also causes his company to lash out at him for pushing Mi-Jin instead another one of their talents. Woo-Gon is fired.
Later, Mi-Jin comes to visit Woo-Gon who is now working as a parking attendant. Mi-Jin asks him to work as his manager. Woo-Gon accepts and works hard to land parts for her. Soon, Mi-Jin is cast as the lead female character in a television drama series. Just as things seem incredibly promising for Mi-Jin, a shady tabloid scandal breaks out. Mi-Jin is identified as the woman involved in a sexual relationship with a well known politician (Ahn Sung-Ki). The source of the leaks are completely unknown. Woo-Gon tries to explain that the tabloid rumors about his client are completely untrue, but nobody listens. A few days later, Mi-Jin is found dead in her apartment. Woo-Gon then decides to find those responsible for spreading the false rumors about Mi-Jin. "

I enjoyed the film quite a lot but found many flaws. Kim Kang-Woo's Woo-Gon character was interesting to say the least as he represents an everyday man who is ambitious about getting the things he wants. As someone who has seen Kim Kang-Woo act before, he is always the one to get beat up and often can never even throw a punch. The plotline was quite interesting as it has to deal with the world of information and the internet. The director did a great job with relating the plot to the modern Korean society but was able to relate the story with the whole world. This is not a "happy film" so don't expect everything to go right and don't expect everyone to be a good person. This film is about the bare truth that are found in lies but no one ever cares to fully investigate the real truth of the matter. If you like information gathering thrillers then this movie is for you.

Day 254 - My Little Bride (Korean)

Mylittlebrideposter.jpg
"Bo-eun (Moon Geun-young) is an ordinary 15-year-old high school girl who worries about grades and has a crush on her school's baseball team ace, Jung-woo. One day, Bo-eun's grandfather orders her to marry Sang-min (Kim Rae-won) because of a pact he made with Sang-min's grandfather during the Korean War. Despite the grandchildren's opposition, they are forced to marry because of Bo-eun's grandfather's strong influence. However later on in the story, it is revealed that Sang-min actually loves Bo-eun. Bo-eun's undercover married life begins: She pretends that she doesn't have a husband and starts dating Jung-woo. Bo-eun believes that she can manage both men and live a double life. Everything goes smoothly until Sang-min becomes a student teacher at Bo-eun's school. From there, their relationship begins to grow. After an accident, Bo-eun's family finds out about Jung-woo. After talking to her mother, Bo-eun finally realizes that she loves Sang-min. At the school festival she breaks up with Jung-woo and confesses her feelings to Sang-min in front of the whole school."-wiki

A nice film but screams out a lack of experience. Kim Rae-won was okay in the film but his character should have been seen more without Kim Rae-won's character. My favorite character was actually Hye-won played by Shin Se-kyung who was absolutely beautiful and actually talented. Even though it was her debut it seemed like she was an experienced actress. The chemistry between the two leads are not there until almost towards the end of the film. Some of the cuts were confusing which distracted me from the story. I would like to have seen the romance between the two more but we only get to see the real thing until the end of the film. Don't get me wrong we do get to see some romantic scenes between the two leads but its like watching two "tsunderes". I would suggest this film to those that like romantic comedies.

Day 253 - The Plan Man (Korean)

The Plan Man poster.jpg

"Jung-seok is a librarian who goes about his daily life with everything planned down to the second. Having obsessive–compulsive personality disorder, he wakes up, crosses the road, visits the convenience store and goes to bed at the same time every day. Whenever he sees anything out of place, he can't help himself but to rectify it, a trait that is particularly irksome to his co-workers. Jung-seok develops a crush for a local convenience store's cashier who demonstrates a similar attention to order and cleanliness. When he finally works up the courage to tell her his feelings, he bumps into So-jung instead, a messy musician and free spirit whose life is lived spontaneously, adventurously and impulsively. With So-jung's help, he tries to woo his dream girl, but the only catch is that she wants someone who doesn't share her obsession for neatness. So now Jung-seok must break his routine and place himself outside of his comfort zone, as So-jung asks him to enter a singing audition program together with her"

I love this film this movie! it was extremely interesting and thankfully the stars were experienced. Jung Jae-young was extremely good in this film, he was the perfect choice for this character. Han Ji-min was also perfect for her role, she was quite energetic and the opposite of Jung Jae-young's character. The overall story was completely funny and romantic but at the same time the characters were flawed which made them seem even more real. I enjoyed watching Han Ji-min sing out all of those interesting song lyrics on the stage. I feel like both actors left everything out for us to see and for us to believe in their characters. The chemistry worked between the two, which didn't surprise me too much since I have seen both of them play romantic roles in the past. I will suggest this film to those that like romantic comedies.

Day 252 - Bloody Tie (Korean)

Bloody Tie poster.jpg

"Sang-do (Ryoo Seung-bum) is a fast talking crystal meth dealer who considers himself more of a businessman than a criminal. Sang-do has been involved in the drug business all of his life. His uncle was a drug dealer (Kim Hee-ra), specializing in manufacturing crystal meth. Sang-do's mother died when one of his uncle’s meth labs blew up in an accident.
Do Jin-kwang (Hwang Jung-min) is a hard-nosed cop who doesn't always play by the rules"

We have two great actors in this film but this film is a failure due to a poor script and direction. I'm not the biggest dan of Ryoo Seung-bum but he does an okay job in this film. Hwang Jung-min was great too but due to the character he was given wasn't written well he isn't as good as he is in his other films. The script is pretty risqué to the subject matter of the film but it really fails and only appears to be an imitation. Everything happens to fast which causes you to misunderstand a few things and only leaves the film with a ton of holes. I don't suggest anyone watch this film despite the two leads.

Day 251 - Kolya (Czech Republic)

Kolya.jpg

"
The film begins in 1988 while the Soviet bloc is beginning to disintegrate. František Louka, a middle-aged Czech man dedicated to bachelorhood and the pursuit of women, is a concert cellist struggling to make out a living by playing funerals at the Prague crematorium. He has lost his previous job at the Czech Philharmonic due to having been half-accidentally blacklisted as "politically unreliable" by the authorities. A friend offers him a chance to earn a great deal of money through a sham marriage to a Russian woman to enable her to stay in Czechoslovakia. The woman then uses her Czechoslovak citizenship to emigrate and join her boyfriend in West Germany.
Due to a concurrence of circumstances, she has to leave behind her Russian-speaking five-year-old son, Kolya, for the disgruntled Czech musician to look after"

This film is completely heart felt but simply a little too dry. The acting is good but the camera style takes away from every scene. Its truly a simple film with complicated characters that are just trying to life while under the threat and control of the soviets. I enjoyed this film a lot especially when the two characters get close, it was truly interesting to see. It was my first Czech film and hopefully wont be the last.

Day 250 - Jack the Giant Slayer (American)

Jack the Giant Slayer poster.jpg
"
In the Kingdom of Cloister, Jack, a young farm boy, is fascinated by the legend of Erik, an ancient king who defeated an army of invading giants from a realm in the sky by controlling them with a magical crown. At the same time, Princess Isabelle becomes fascinated with the same legend.
Ten years later, Jack goes into town to sell his horse to support his uncle's farm. There, Jack spots Isabelle and develops a crush on her after defending her honor from a group of hooligans. Meanwhile, Lord Roderick returns to his study, only to find that a monk has robbed him. The monk offers Jack some magic beans he stole from Roderick as collateral for Jack's horse. Back at the castle, Isabelle quarrels with her father, King Brahmwell, as she wants to explore the kingdom, but he wants her to stay and marry Roderick. Likewise, Jack's uncle scolds him for being foolish before throwing the beans on the floor and leaving the house."

I was looking to forward to this movie a little bit but it was sadly a big disappointment. Nicholas Hoult who played Jack was so annoying that every time I saw him I wanted to punch him in the face. I didn't like how cheap most of the costumes look like the king's armor. I did like some of the architecture and how the world was set up. The CGI wasn't that bad as most movies are nowadays but when the CGI was used on a product far away it looked completely fake. This is another film that was made based on a bedtime story that has been told for a very long time. I suggest this film to those that like fantasy films.

Day 249 - My Heart Beats (Korean)

My Heart Beats-p1.jpg

"37-year-old Yoo Jo-Ri is a professor of English and literature. She also likes to watch pornography. It seems the only way she can escape from her dry and shabby life is by watching those videos. One day, she watches an odd erotic video and feels herself wanting to experience similar emotions. Jo-Ri decides to act in an erotic video. She visits Myong-Sook who is her friend and an adult video producer. After going through training and dieting, Jo-Ri is paired with a young adult actor named Byul ..."-Asian Wiki

The opening of this film should have given me enough reason to not watch the rest of the film. We first see the character eating a heart quite sloppy and loudly. It is a completely annoying opening with no real value. The acting was bland with caused the film to be quite boring and slightly like a D rated porno. There is sex in the film if you want to watch it because of that but the sex to me was poorly directed. There really is no chemistry between the leads, there's no heat its nothing to be excited about. The best thing was Yoo Dong-Sook's acting as her character was simply the best part of the city. As an erotic film this completely fails and I hope to never see this film again.

Sadly the lead actress Yoo Dong Sook died in 2010 and this film is her only appearance.

A sucidial Japanese woman decides to become a high class call girl when she is picked up by a madam.

First off the lead actress Sei Ashina is quite beautiful but she doesn't act well in this film. I don't think she was given enough of a chance to fully act in this film. The poor direction and camera control really ruined this film. As an erotic film it was quite bland with no real value. This film kind of reminds me of AV Idol but this one is a tad bit more serious. The script was poorly written and developed that every character annoys you. A lot of random things happen which I think were put in there only to occupy the time. This film could have been a lot shorter! In the hands of a better director this film could have been something good.

Day 247 - RIPD (American)

"Boston Police Department detectives Nick Walker and Bobby Hayes steal gold discovered on duty. During a subsequent raid, Hayes kills Walker to prevent him from returning the gold. In the afterlife, Walker is recruited by Mildred Proctor, director of the Boston division of the 'Rest In Peace Department' (R.I.P.D.): an agency of deceased police officers who investigate, capture, and often destroy the renegade ghosts known as "deadoes" who stay on Earth as monsters. Walker is thereupon assigned as junior partner to Roy Pulsipher, a former U.S. Marshal and soldier of the American Civil War."-Wikipedia

Honestly this film made me laugh a few times but in reality it is quite a sad movie because of all of the talent in the film. Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds, Mary Louise Parker, Kevin Bacon, James Hong and a few others. It could have been better if the script was more serious including the dialogue. The 3D effects were incredibly bad that there was no way to save this film. The lighting should have been better used as could the individual shots. The film also seemed quite short since not a whole lot happens in the film. Jeff Bridges voice in the film could have been better since it was hard to understand what he was saying sometimes. His voice in the film could be seen as annoying since it was obviously vastly different from his normal voice. I understand that this is a summer film but come on it could have been a thousand times better. I will not suggest this film to anyone!

Day 246 - AV Idol (Japanese/Korean)

A Japanese AV idol comes to South Korea in order to film a porno but instead meets a Korean girl who dreams of being an idol.

Its not bad but I wish they used a different quality of film. It was poorly acted but it was still interesting as I enjoyed the concept of the film. There's really no one famous in the film so don't go expecting a whole of notable faces.  a corny comedy film that people will enjoy if they ever have seen an over the top Japanese comedy. The lighting was awful as well, it was hard to see some scenes in the film. One notable face is Yui Tatsumi who used to be a race queen before she got into AVs. Its

Day 245 - Essex Boys (British)

Essexboysdvd.jpg

"The film is based loosely around events in December 1995 that culminated in the murders of two top drug barons and their driver in Rettendon, Essex, UK. On 6 December 1995, Patrick Tate, Craig Rolfe and Tony Tucker, three drug dealers well known to the police, were lured to Workhouse Lane, Rettendon on the pretext of a lucrative drug deal. There they were killed by shotgun blasts to the head while sitting in their Range Rover. The bodies were found the following morning."

This film is complete trash that it really cant be saved. The plot was predictable and the characters were annoying and poorly developed. I suggest you skip this gangster film!

Day 244 - The Protector 2 (Thai)

Tom-Yum-Goong-2-poster.jpg

"Kham (Tony Jaa) refuses to sell his elephant Khon to the trader, Suchart Vilawandei (Adinan Buntanaporn) who plans on selling it to someone who works for the gangster LC (Rza). Kham later finds Vilawandei dead at his home in Bangkok, and his two nieces, martial artists Ping-ping (Yanin "Jeeja" Vismitananda) and Sue-sue (Theerada Kittiseriprasert), think he is responsible. While escaping from them, Kham meets his old friend Sergeant Mark (Mum Jokmok), who informs Kham about a terrorist plot to disrupt the Kantana peace talks in Bangkok."-wiki

Tony Jaa is back with vengeance! I loved the film as it has been a while since I saw Jaa perform in a film. I hated the 3D aspect of the film since it made several things look fake which caused some of the film to lose its grittiness that was present in the first film. I enjoyed the addition of Yanin Vismitananda (This Girl is Badass) since she too is a badass martial artist. I suggest this film to those that like Tony Jaa and martial arts films.

Day 243 - A.F.R.I.K.A. (Korean)

A.F.R.I.K.A. film poster.jpg

"Two young women, Ji-won and So-hyun, go on a road trip in a car borrowed from So-hyun's boyfriend; however, unknown to them the car is in fact stolen and contains a case of guns belonging to a corrupt police officer and gangster. The women discover the guns and initially believe them to be fakes, but after accidentally shooting out the car's back window and attracting the attention of local police, they are forced to continue their journey on foot. Ji-won and So-hyun find that life on the road can be dangerous, and resort to using guns to get themselves out of trouble. Along the way they are joined by Jin-ah, a sales clerk, and Young-mi, a dabang girl, and after several robberies the quartet end up being pursued by the police and the gangsters who want their guns back. However, their exploits turn them into media superstars with their own website and fanclub, the Adoring Four Revolutionary Idols Korean Association (A.F.R.I.K.A.), which leads to a series of copycat crimes perpetrated by their fans."

This film was made over 12 years ago and is still good. I'm surprised that I haven't heard about it until I saw it on Huluplus. This is an action flick that should appeal to woman all around the world not just men. The women are beautiful and decent actress in the film but many years later they would all grow to be better actresses. It was nice to see how these four grew as actresses and I hope to see more of their films. I suggest this action flick to those that like action movies with female leads.

Day 242 - Innocent Things (Korean)

Thorn-p1.jpg

"
Joon-Ki (Jang Hyuk) is a popular P.E. teacher at a girl's high school. He is married to Seo-Yeon (Sun Woo-Sun) who is expecting their first child imminently.
During swimming class, a student named Young-Eun (Jo Bo-Ah) climbs up to the highest diving platform and jumps into the swimming pool. Joon-Ki jumps into the water and saves her. Days later, Joon-Ki is leaving school on a rainy late afternoon and runs into Young-Eun who is completely drenched. Joon-Ki takes Young-Eun back into school to change clothes. They spend time together in a classroom, with Young-Eun behaving in an flirtatious manner. Soon, Joon-Ki's marriage to Seo-Yeon is threatened. "aw

A truly interesting romantic thriller that goes to all hell. I enjoyed this film a lot, it had romance, suspense, twists, and horror. The romance element helped the story seem realistic. Jo Bo-ah did an wonderful job with her performance of a high school girl in love with her teacher. I cant wait to see her grow as an actress. Jang Hyuk did a good job as well as that teacher, he is a good actor that needs some improvement. Overall the story Is good, I really didn't like the wife and was hoping for a happier ending.
I suggest this film to those that like romantic thrillers like Fatal Attraction.

Day 241 - My Boss, My Hero (Korean)

"This gangster comedy tells of a successful young mobster who has taken over the fashionable Myeongdong district of Seoul. When he mistakes the poet Yun Tong-ju for a liquor similar to dongdongju, his gang decides the boss's ignorance is an embarrassment. The gang takes up a collection and puts the boss back in high school."-Wikipedia

A very good gangster comedy which was way better than the third film in the series. I enjoyed watching all of the characters. I also enjoyed seeing some actors that I see a lot as supporting characters in Korean dramas younger. It is a good film but I wish the ending was better since I want to know what happened to all of the characters. This film was made thirteen years ago but it is still relevant. I will suggest this film to anyone that likes gangster comedies.
