Day 210 - The Executioner (Korean)

"The first execution will occur in over 12 years at a Korean prison. A delicate atmosphere takes over the prison ...."

A wonderful piece of cinema that reminded me of The Green Mile without the supernatural elements of course. This film has heart which is hard to find, you feel for these small cast of men who have one of the most stressful jobs. There is of course the side stories which need improvement but I enjoyed the movie still. Both Cho Jae-Hyun and Yoon Kye-Sang did a truly wonderful job with this film! I salute the director as well, he knew what he was doing but he needs a little more experience.

Day 209 - City of God (Brazilian)

"Chickens are being prepared for a meal when a chicken escapes and an armed gang chases after it in a favela called the Cidade de Deus ("City of God"). The chicken stops between the gang and a young man named Rocket (Buscapé), who believes that the gang wants to kill him. A flashback traces Rocket, the narrator, back to the 1960s"

Such a boring film! The whole time I was just hoping to get through it in one shot. I don't know why this film is such a hit with everyone else. Its totally crap to me, all the actors had no charisma so it wasn't fun to see them at all. I have to say that the characters were well developed and had a good standing. I have a problem with the story since it was so boring and predictable. Plus I hate the character of Angelica, she was the simple girl next door who sleeps someone the main character gets close to and eventually loves that man over the main character. It happens all the time in crime/gangster films. I would suggest you skip this movie

Day 208 - Toxic Avenger Part 2 (American)

"Five years after the events of the original film, The Toxic Avenger (Ron Fazio) is lured to Tokyo, Japan by the evil corporation Apocalypse Inc. So while the Toxic Avenger is fighting crime in Tokyo, Apocalypse Inc. spreads evil in Tromaville and it is up to the famous hideously deformed superhero of superhuman size and strength to stop the abominable Apocalypse Inc. from attacking both Tokyo and Tromaville"

I enjoy films where Americans go to Japan and this film is no exception. I enjoyed the use of Japanese characters like sumo wrestlers and geisha they were fun to see. This was also Michael Jai White's first movie even if its a small role. I enjoyed this movie and I think it was able to do so well in japan is because of how the humor was used which is similar to a lot of Japanese comedy horrors movies that I have seen. I suggest this film to those that like horror comedies!

Day 207- Moss (korean)

"When Ryoo arrives in a remote rural village to settle the estate of his estranged father, he stumbles into a dark web of secrets and betrayals that have lain buried for thirty years. The village is ruled over by its sinister chief, Cheon, a former police detective, and his cabal of reformed criminals - who seem to have both hated and feared Ryoo’s late father. It quickly becomes clear that Ryoo’s presence is not wanted – and that Cheon and the others are hiding something terrible. Soon the unwelcome visitor finds his life threatened as the truth becomes ever more obscured and allegiances shift beneath his feet..."

A very good mystery film that will leave you on the edge of your seat. It is the best mystery film I have seen in a long time. It is also a very long film nearly 3 hours but it is worth it. Everyone in this film is great especially Park Hae-il and Jung Jae-young. But I didn't like Yoo Jun-sang's character or acting in this film since it was so poor. I don't really want to see him in another movie since I didn't like him at all. I do like Yoo Sun but she her character wasn't well written and kind of confusing. I hope to see her play better roles soon. I suggest this movie to anyone that likes mystery films.

Day 206 - Like Someone in Love (Japanese/french)

In Tokyo, sociology student Akiko (Rin Takanashi) moonlights as a high-end prostitute. Her jealous boyfriend, Noriaki (Ryō Kase) is suspicious, but does not know about her work.
One night, she is assigned to Takashi (Tadashi Okuno), an elderly former university professor who is more interested in making her dinner than having sex. The morning after their unconsummated night, Takashi drives Akiko to school for her exams. While waiting in the car for her, he encounters Noriaki, who assumes Takashi is her grandfather and asks permission to marry her. Takashi does not correct Noriaki's assumption and assures him he isn't ready for marriage."

A wonderful film that appears quite awkward but it screams of the modern age. At times it kind of tension pack while other times its loose and fun. There's a lot of talking so don't expect any sex or nudity at all. The film has true value in that way, it wouldn't have been as good if there was sex in the film. Rin Takanashi is such a beautiful and remarkable actress I've been a fan of hers since I saw you in Goth a year ago. I cant wait to see more films from her! Everyone in this film was great, I enjoyed watching their experiences. The chain that held everything together was Tadashi Okuno's performance which was superb. He really helped the film out by kind of being the central character. I suggest this film to those that like dramatic movies.

Day 205 - Two Lives (German)

It is based on an unpublished novel, Ice Ages, by German author Hannelore Hippe. (It has since been published.) She was inspired by reports in the late 1980s of the discovery of the half-burned body of a young woman near Bergen, and there was speculation as to her identity. This was just before the fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification of Germany.
The film gradually unravels the story of Katrine Evensen Myrdal (Kohler), a happily married woman with a grown daughter and granddaughter, and of her mother Ase Evensen (Ullmann). Katrine is known to have escaped from East Germany and made her way to Norway as a young woman to be reunited with her birth mother, Ase Evensen."

Didn't like it at all! It was boring and very predictable. I didn't even like the cast nor the characters in the film but I do like the subject matter. Though I don't like the execution of the plot because it was quite bland despite the subject matter.

Day 204 - The Croods (American)

"Eep is a cave girl whose family is part of the classification homo erectus living in the harsh environment of the stone age with her overprotective father Grug, her kind mother Ugga, her grandmother Gran and her younger siblings Thunk and Sandy. The only family around after their neighbors met unfortunate ends, Eep lives a sheltered life protected by her father until one night she sees a light outside of the cave. Defying Grug's rule about going out after dark she follows it and meets a neanderthal boy, an inventive idealist named Guy and his pet sloth Belt who introduces Eep to fire and explains that he is escaping what he calls "The End" saying that a great cataclysm is coming that could destroy Eep and her family. She refuses to go with him, but he gives her a shell to use as a horn if she needed him. Grug, looking for Eep eventually finds her and grounds her for breaking the rules. On their way back to the cave, a tremendous earthquake causes its destruction, revealing a tropical wilderness behind it. They are forced to escape into it when a predator attacks them, and Grug seeks out to find the family a new cave to live in."

Better than I thought it was going to be! I laughed at a few parts in the movie but sometimes it was boring. I could relate with the general storyline at times but sometimes it was very corny. This film features an all star cast like Emma Stone, Nicholas Cage, Cloris Leachman, Ryan Reynolds which totally helped the film. I enjoyed the characters of the baby, belt, and granny sometimes. To me they were very comedic tools that made the film fit together. I enjoyed everyone's performance but I wish the animation was a little better at some parts. This film still didn't make me a 3d animation fan either. I suggest this film to those that like 3d animation and dreamworks movies
