Day 164 - The Conjuring (American)

"In 1971, Roger and Carolyn Perron move into a dilapidated farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island with their five daughters Andrea, Nancy, Christine, Cindy, and April. During the first day, their move goes smoothly, though their dog Sadie refuses to enter the house and one of the daughters finds a boarded up entrance to a cellar." -Wiki

A truly interesting horror film that managed to entertain me throughout most of the film. The beginning may seem boring but if you get through it you will be surprised. The horror and suspense of this film was quite well done. I expected something great from the original director of Saw and I got it with this film. James Wan is a great horror director and I hope to see more films from him. Patrick Wilson was great in this film as well, he and Wan worked on Insidious (1 & 2) together. I feel like that helped with the filming of the film. I suggest this film to suspenseful paranormal horror films.

Day 163 - I wish (Japanese)

"I Wish tells the story of two young brothers who live separated in different cities and dream of reuniting"

Truly an inspiring film told from the perspective of the innocently naïve children. It was nice that the two main children are brothers in real life. They had a sort of connection or bond that was similar to real life siblings. So the emotions are there, though I kind of wish the film was longer or the time in the film was better used. There's a few big stars that do cameos or smaller roles like Jo Odagiri plays the boys father, Hiroshi Abe (Chocolate) plays as their teacher and Nene Otsuka (Bashing) portrays the boys mom.  They have small roles but still manage to make their situations feel genuine. This is a wonderful film from the perspective of children which we don't get to see so often and so well done.

Day 162 - Emperor (Japanese)

"Set during the occupation of Japan, Brigadier General Bonner Fellers is tasked by the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers, General of the Army Douglas MacArthur to investigate the role of Emperor Hirohito in World War II, in order to establish if he should be tried as a war criminal. He seeks information about his pre-war Japanese girlfriend Aya, seen in flashbacks, who was killed during the war."

A remarkable film that features several events that are important in the history of the United States and Japan. Tommy Lee Jones was great as General McArthur, it was quite interesting to see him portray this important figure. Matthew Fox  did a good job as well, I hope he will become a better actor in the future. The romance in the film is not cliché to me, it would have been cliché if she Aya was married to a Japanese man after leaving American without a word to Matthew's character. Eriko Hatsune also did a great job, you can truly feel for her character. Wish the film was longer than it was made since this story would have been told easier/better with a longer length.

Day 161 - Blades of Blood (Korean)

In the late 16th century, the Joseon kingdom is thrown into chaos by the threat of a Japanese invasion. Royal descendant Lee Mong-hak (Cha Seung-won) and legendary blind swordsman Hwang Jeong-hak (Hwang Jung-min) were once allies who dreamed of stamping out social inequality and corruption, and creating a better world. Persecuted by the court, Lee forms a rebel army in hopes of overthrowing the inept king and taking the throne himself. Lee is willing to kill recklessly and betray former comrades to forge his bloody path to the palace, but Hwang Jeong-hak and the vengeful young man Kyeon-ja stand in the way.

Another bad historical action film that I fell pray do to who's in it. Cha Seung-won and Hwang Jung-min are excellent actors but with bad direction and dialogue was so bad they couldn't save this film. Baek Sung-hyun was so horrible in this film, I probably will never see another movie he appears in. I suggest you don't watch this

Day 160 - Gomennasai aka Ring of Curse or I'm Sorry(Japanese)

"This movie is about a girl named Yuka. She attends the same school as a girl with black hair, named Kurohane. Kurohane is a strange girl with great grades in school. However, she has a hard life at home, because her mother and father do not care about her. They only care about her sister, Kana. One day, Kurohane found she had cancer, but still, her mother did not care, so she cursed her little sister Kana with words. Kana started having trouble breathing and died within a month. Kurohane tried the same with her mother but it did not work, so she entered a competition to improve her skills."-wiki

An interesting horror film with a nice concept that I loved from the moment I read the plot. It is kind of slow at times and not all too exciting.  Most of the people die the same way, so some people might find the film boring. It reminded a little of Death Note but without a grim reaper. I enjoyed watching Kurohane as a character during the course of the film. I suggest this film to those that like Japanese horror films.

Day 159 - A Touch of Sin (Chinese)

"Set in current times and based on allegedly true events from the recent past, the film also draws on the history of wuxia stories. Its English title is a reference to King Hu's 1971 action epic A Touch of Zen, one of the most influential wuxia films.
It revolves around four threads set in vastly different geographical and social milieus across modern-day China, ranging from the bustling southern metropolis of Guangzhou and Dongguan to the more rural townships in Jia's home province of Shanxi.^[3]

A very pessimistic film that might leave you wanting more. The ending wasn't satisfying at all, wish I could have seen some of the earlier characters again. It wasn't all over the place like I thought it would be. It was well done directed wise, the characters seemed real and they held nothing back. This film reflects the society of China and several real life events. The film was simple but so well done. I suggest this film to those that like pessimistic films, movies about china, and movies telling life has it is.

Day 158 - Lost in Thailand (Chinese)

"The story begins with a scientist, Xu Lang (Xu Zheng), who invented a solution (youba, lit. Oil Master, translated as "Supergas") which has the power of increasing the volume of any liquid to which the solution is applied. Such a solution implies great potential profitability if applied to gasoline or any precious liquid. However, he needs the authorization of Lao Zhou, the biggest shareholder, in order to get further funding from an investment fund. Gao Bo (Huang Bo), who was the classmate of Xu in college and his partner at the workplace, wants to sell the invention to a French company instead."

Truly a funny film, It reminded me so much of Due Date. The characters are humanistic and funny, sure there are a lot of cheap laughs at least they are entertaining. This film also was some good life lessons, that almost all people should learn to have. I have to say I also enjoyed the cameo by Fan Bingbing, she is very beautiful. I suggest this film to anyone that liked the Due Date and who loves comedies.
