Day 157 - Sleepwalkers (Hong Kong)

"Can you kill while Sleepwalking?"

Don't waste your time with this film, it is very boring and has no real value sadly. I thought it was going to be a good film because one of the Pang brothers directed this film. I was bitterly disappointed and don't know if I watch another one of his films.

Day 156 - Defendor (Canadian)

"Dr. Park (Sandra Oh), a psychiatrist, is interviewing Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson), a vigilante known as "Defendor", who tells about assaulting a police officer who claims to be working undercover. Dooney (Elias Koteas) is a corrupt detective who Defendor believes is in the employ of his nemesis, "Captain Industry". Arthur's mother left him as a child, and died from drug abuse some years later. His grandfather said that the "captains of industry" killed her. As a child, Arthur misinterpreted this and thought that a particular man was responsible.
Arthur is arrested for assaulting Dooney, but Fairbanks (Clark Johnson), the police captain in charge, connects with Arthur because their grandfathers both served in the First World War. After Arthur is released, he takes his trench club and disappears.
Arthur is living in the government construction depot where he works during the day. His life is very solitary, but after another confrontation with Dooney, he meets Angel (Kat Dennings), a prostitute who was smoking crack with Dooney. After he is brutally beaten by Dooney's friends, she helps him recover. She also informs him of Captain Industry's whereabouts and that his real name is Radovan Kristic (A. C. Peterson). He lets her move in with him, and enlists her help in apprehending Kristic. Angel reveals her real name is Katerina Debrofkowitz."

A bizarre and somewhat interesting comedy drama starring Woody Harrelson and Kat Dennings. Woody's portrayal of the character was quite interesting, it's not a character I've seen him act before. While the beautiful Kat Dennings played a character that has similar traits to most of her characters except for her character in this film smokes crack.  Her character was interesting but she's not as important as Arthur is. It was also nice to see Sandra Oh, she's beautiful and a great actress even if she had a small role in this film. I would suggest these film to those that like comedies that borderline on bizarre and stupid laughable.

Day 155 - Hwayi: A Monster Boy (Korean)

In the middle of a forest, a notorious five-member crime organization lives together on a deserted farm. One day, following a plan that didn't go as expected, an infant whom they had kidnapped in a blackmailing scheme is left with them. 14 years later, this boy, who is now named Hwa-yi, lives as the son of his five criminal fathers: Seok-tae, the cold but charismatic leader, Ki-tae, a stammering driving expert, Jin-seong, an ideal planner, Beom-soo, a guns expert, and Dong-beom a cold martial artist. Hwa-yi has been brought up in a unique way, learning skills from his five fathers instead of going to school. Though he has adapted to this life, sometimes he longs for the ordinary life of other boys, which seems impossible for him.
The gang plans another crime, which will see Hwa-yi participate for the first time. During a fight, Hwa-yi fires a gun to kill someone. At first, his fingers tremble and the gun shakes but after one shot, he keeps pulling the trigger as though possessed. He finds a picture of a child on the man he shot and soon Hwa-yi starts to uncover a huge secret and his tragic destiny. His life is turned upside down when he learns that the man he killed was, in fact, his real father. From that moment on, Hwa-yi vows revenge on his gangster fathers, using the devious skills he picked up from a life in crime.^"-Wiki

A total kick ass film that's full of violence and mixed feelings. Yeo Jin-goo did a wonderful job portraying the title character. I enjoyed watching how the character developed and how he used the skills he was taught to take down his "fathers". The direction was there though I was thrown off by the use of the monster. The CGI they used was not the best but it was still a well designed monster used to symbolize something for the main character. This is not a film for anyone to watch if they want a cutesy action film. This film is a great example of a stellar action film that you wished could have been longer.
I suggest this film to anyone that enjoys action films and films dealing with a teenage crime prodigy.

Day 154 - Silver Linings Playbook (American)

"Cooper plays Patrick "Pat" Solatano, Jr., a man with bipolar disorder who is released from a psychiatric hospital and moves back in with his parents, played by Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver. Determined to win back his estranged wife, Pat meets recently widowed Tiffany Maxwell, portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence, who offers to help him get his wife back if he enters a dance competition with her. The two become closer as they train and Pat, his father, and Tiffany examine their relationships with each other as they cope with their issues."

This film should have never won any awards especially for Jennifer Lawrence's performance. There are a few laughable moments but other times the comedy used was very stupid. De Niro's character seemed almost un-necessary and really uninteresting. Even Pat's older brother seemed useless to the plotline. At times you wonder if you should treat this film seriously or toss back in it's case. I will see that Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper's characters were the best but they lacked a lot of depth despite everything that happened in the film. I couldn't take this film seriously at all, I did appreciate Chris Tucker's role since it has been a while since I saw him in a movie but his character was also a little useless to the storyline. I wouldn't suggest this film to any romance fans but maybe romantic comedy fans. But that's only if they have nothing else to do.

Day 153 - Agnes and His Brothers (German)

"Three very different siblings: Hans-Jörg, a librarian who is a sex addict; Werner, a politician in a troubled marriage with a son who enjoys discrediting his father; Martin, who is now Agnes after having a gender-reassignment operation. Agnes works as a dancer and is suffering from unrequited love."

A slightly dull/funny film that was bizarre at some parts. I enjoyed some parts but the awkward moments with the main character's father was creepy and wasn't fully entertaining. The movie fails due to poor direction and a somewhat poor script. I enjoyed the cameo by Til Schweiger towards the beginning of the film. Even though it's Agnes and his brothers, the film didn't really explore a lot of material which made it boring at certain parts.  I have to say that I won't watch this film again and I won't suggest this film to anyone.

Day 152 - Underdogs (American)

"Bobby Burkett (Logan Huffman) is a promising quarterback for a struggling high-school football team. Vince DeAntonio (D.B. Sweeney) is a former college football offensive coordinator, who abruptly resigned five years earlier, and has now become coach at the high school. The coach realizes the team needs more depth, and recruits several unlikely new players. Over the course of the season, Bobby falls for Renee (Maddie Hasson) a cheerleader at a rival high school, who also is the love interest of the rival school's quarterback (Charlie Carver). Bobby's father (William Mapother), is an inventor who works for the rival quarterback's father (Richard Portnow). The inventor gets sued by his employer over the intellectual property rights to a new space heater design, and must struggle to keep his invention. The employer's company is also planning to move manufacturing to Mexico, eliminating jobs in the community. The story climaxes in a charity football game between the rival teams, which serves as a rallying point for the inventor's family, the school, and the community."

Seriously a bad movie that I lost interest in towards the beginning of the film. The acting was completely bad and the script was far better but due to poor actors the film suffers. Please this film should not be watched!

Day 151 - The Suspect (Korean)

A nice action thriller that at some parts reminded me of the Jason Bourne Series without all of the memory loss and love interests.

This is Gong Yoo's first action movie, he did a very good job. Better than most of the current starts that haunt action thrillers. Despite him being used to romantic comedies, Gong Yoo surprised me with how well he fit into this kind of film. I enjoyed his performance in this a lot. Besides that, this is not the best action thriller I've ever seen but its still enjoyable. It has heart in a way, that is quite unique to this genre.

Park Hee-Soon also surprised me with how much I liked his character. I didn't like any of his characters until I watched this film. He was a well match pair with Gong Yoo, this two seemed to blaze up the screen with the intense chase.

I suggest this movie to those that like action thrillers.
